Marine Breynaert: The art of enhancing light
A few meters from the hotel, rue de Varenne, artist-designer Marine Breynaert is one of the talents that illuminate our neighborhood.
In her hands, metal meets light to create exceptional pieces. True jewels, imagined and developed with master craftsmen, her creations combine art and functionality. Artist Marine Breynaert establishes herself as a reference in the contemporary design universe. Her signature? Luminous sculptures crafted like jewelry, where light doesn't just illuminate a space, but transforms, enriches, and animates it.
The reflection of Metal, the glimmer of Light
Since her childhood, Marine Breynaert had ball bearings and gears in her toy chest, thanks to her grandfather who ran an industrial motor repair factory. It's in this mechanical universe, where metal reigned, that Marine discovered her calling. She retains from this period a taste for massive pieces that weigh heavily in the hand.
The regular visits to Drouot with her mother sparked a taste for jewelry in her, with a penchant for the Art Deco period.
Her art studies at the Sorbonne and the École Nationale des Arts Décoratifs (ENSAD) broadened her practice to textiles, screen printing, sculpture, drawing, painting, and photography.
But for her, nothing equals the brilliance of metal.
Marine's workshop, a true haven of creativity, is a place where metal comes to life and where light becomes a full-fledged artistic medium.

Marine also creates a subtle interplay between her luminaires and the flame's light, which she interprets in candlesticks and torches. Lighting at Marine Breynaert is never blinding, it's a vibrant glow, a flicker, close to the flame. She has no difficulty placing several of her lamps side by side, like a set of candles. The metallic lace lampshades have an intimate, subtle, and lively presence. Every project begins with the luminous sensation it will offer. Among Marine Breynaert's inspirations, there's Rembrandt's chiaroscuro, Vermeer's elusive light, and the clarity of northern painters.
Metal is her trademark. Hammered, brushed, thermo-lacquered, patinated, polished. To this are added other materials: glass, marble, alabaster, oxidized wood. Marine Breynaert is an expert in luminous sensation; for her, light is a medium in its own right, a sensitive counterpoint to metal's brilliance that makes her creations vibrant. A story where light, subtly measured, dances and evolves through delicate and powerful forms.
Creations that inspire light and poetry.
To conceive her collections, Marine collaborates with master craftsmen. The artist imagines atmospheres, emotions, a light that adapts to the intimacy of each space. Her work is both aesthetic and sensual. It invites itself into your homes, your hotels, your living spaces, transforming them into magical places.
Marine Breynaert explores light through sculptural creations that transform spaces. Her flagship collection, the lamp Black Swan, embodies the subtle balance between the power of metal and the delicacy of light. Each piece is a work of art, designed to bring a unique and intimate ambiance.
She also collaborates with big names in decoration, publisher Pierre Frey, and decorator Jacques Garcia, creating custom lighting for prestigious projects. Among her noteworthy collections, the series Donna and Magda, which combine candles and bulbs, have become best-sellers. Her Insectes collection, using materials like porcupine quills, explores the fusion between art and nature.

Her creations are now exhibited in prestigious galleries and are part of the Mobilier National collections. The Galerie Dumonteil at 38, rue de l'Université, 75007 Paris presents her latest creations from the "Insectes" collection, true jewels of light.
Design as a life philosophy
In her universe, every project is a meeting. A meeting between materials, light, and spaces. Marine's workshop is not just a place of fabrication but a true creative laboratory, where every idea takes shape in the light, giving birth to works with a unique character.
Marine Breynaert is more than just a designer, she is a creator of light, a poet of shadow and brilliance, an alchemist of materials. Through her creations, she offers us much more than simple lighting: she invites us to experience the art of light.
